v1.5.0: 53 free shadcn/ui icons for bots, clipboards, save and shields

Fifty-three icons are new. Forty-one of them grew out of one list: the icons shadcn/create uses in its previews. Nineteen of those had no drawing here yet, and most of them brought a family along. The clipboard comes with eleven signs, the floppy disk with five, and the arrow leaving a square points out of all four corners.

The other twelve are bots and shields. bot-2 is bot-circle now, the round one of seven bots that share one face. And the shield gains six signs.

That makes 1,286 icons. Each one comes in stroke, two-tone, duotone and fill, with rounded or sharp corners: 10,288 SVGs in all.

What shadcn/create was missing

shadcn/create is where a new shadcn/ui project picks its style, its colours and its icon library. The previews it builds use 182 icons, and each one is written down once for every library on offer, under that library's own name.

Checked against that list, 163 were already here. Most have the same name, and the rest go by one of their own: the lock with a keyhole is plain lock, and the settings sliders are sliders-2-horizontal. Nineteen had no drawing at all. Those are the ones drawn now.

Some are everyday controls: save, clipboard, frame, columns-3, target and star-off. Some are objects: a television, a shipping container and a set of blocks, four squares with one lifted out of its corner. The two flips are a pair of triangles facing each other across a dashed line, side to side and top to bottom. square-arrow-out-up-right is the external link, an arrow leaving a square through the corner it opens, and it now leaves through the other three corners too. cloud-upload came with cloud-download, and the blocks with a pyramid of three and a cluster of hexagons.

Search had to know the list as well. A name from it now opens on the drawing it means, even where this set spells it differently: external-link opens on square-arrow-out-up-right, log-out on bracket-arrow-left and loader-2 on loader-circle. It works the same on the site, in the MCP server, the CLI and the Figma plugin.

Signs on the board

The clipboard takes its signs the way the money bag does, in the middle rather than in a corner cut away for them. It is a board for writing on, so the sign sits where the writing would be.

That gives clipboard-check, clipboard-plus, clipboard-minus and clipboard-x, then an alert, a list, code, a prompt and a T for text. An arrow on the board is copy or paste. And paste on its own is the clipboard with a page held in front of it.

The floppy disk is save, still the picture almost every app uses for it, long after the disk itself went away. Its tick, plus, minus and cross take the place of the round hub, so the disk keeps its outline. With a slash through it, the shutter along the top is left out, since all it would leave is a stray piece beside the slash.

Seven bots and six shields

bot-circle is the bot that shipped as bot-2: a round head and two short eyes, tilted a little so they glance up and to the right. With six more around it, the round one is named for its shape. The old name keeps working, in search and as Bot2 and Bot2Icon in React.

The face is the same drawing in every one, only moved: into a square, a heart, a droplet, a star, the round speech bubble of message and the body of cloud. Turned a little, the way star-shooting is, the star comes out exactly as wide as it is tall. bot-message is the one for a chatbot: a face in a speech bubble, where people already look for help.

The shield had a tick, a plus, a minus and a cross, and a key, a prompt and sparkles. Six more join them: an alert, a question mark, a padlock, a person, a heart, and a slash for a shield that is switched off. The alert, the question mark, the person and the heart are the ones the set already draws inside a circle or a map pin, so they read the same in a shield. The person's shoulders run down into the bottom of the shield, the way they run into the ring of circle-user. The padlock is drawn small enough to leave room around it.
